JDMVip.com Contacts JUMVEA To Involve Japan In Transport Canada's Trade Issue Regarding the 15-Year Import Rule -
JUMVEA (Japan Used Motor Vehicle Exporters Association)
We are currently reaching out to as many Japanese organizations as we possibly can in order to get the Japanese side involved in this important trade issue regarding the importation of JDM Cars.
The managing director of JUMVEA "Toshio Kimura" instantly knew that this issue was not about safety but is rather a clever way to effectively "embargo" Japanese Used Cars from entering Canadian waters. Please read his correspondence from the bottom to the top, where the bottom most message is our initial contact with him.
They have been discussing the issue at their board meetings and we are awaiting their plan of action regarding Transport Canada's attempted embargo of our beloved JDM cars.
============================================
Hello Toshio
Thank you for your reply.
We have our own website http://jdmvip.com to educate Canadians about
this and we are also going to send feedback to transport Canada.
There is also a group called IVOAC who is dedicated to stopping the
embargo http://ivoac.ca
There is no auto dealers association in Canada that will help
unfortunately. The major auto dealers do not like JDM imports as it
creates more competition. We believe that the big auto dealers are
trying to convince the government to embargo these cars to save their
own business.
We will continue to do what we can, but we hope JUMVEA can get the
Japanese government involved, as we feel this is also a major trade
issue between Japan and Canada.
Thanks for your help and we look forward to working with JUMVEA to stop
this embargo.
Regards

Thank you for your inquiries as to Canada Proposes Legislation which
would propose an embargo of
import of Japanese used cars to Canada.
We would take up this matter to the JUMVEA Board Members' meeting on
next Wednesday, but
would like to know how you are considering to stop this legislation by
yourselves in Canada side.
Wil you please let us know if you have any effective counterproposal
or action by your own effort
under you/your Auto dealers Association in Canada, against this new
law by Canadian Government.
Thanks and regards,
Toshio Kimura

SUBJECT: Canada Proposes Legislation To Stop Japanese Used Cars From
Being Imported
To Whom This May Concern
We are writing JUMVEA
because we want you and your members to be aware that Transport
Canada is in the process of changing our import laws.
Currently vehicles 15 years and older are eligible for import to
Canada. However, under Transport Canada's proposed laws only vehicles
25 years or older would be eligible for import into Canada.
This would have a huge effect on JUMVEA and its members as many
Canadians have begun to import and enjoy the great used cars Japan
has to offer.
If this law is passed through our government JUMVEA members will not
be able to sell anymore of the same vehicles to Canada.
We are concerned that if JUMVEA and the Japanese government do not
intervene by contacting our government that this new proposed law
will pass and Canadians will no longer be able to purchase used cars
from Japan.
Our government alleges that used cars from Japan do not meet Canadian
safety standards and are a danger to the public. At JDMVip.com we
know this is not true and that Japanese cars are very safe and reliable.
We hope to get JUMVEA and the Japanese government involved in the
discussion and debate on the proposed import laws being changed to 25
years.
You can view more information about this proposed change on Transport
Canada's website at
http://www.tc.gc.ca/roadsafety/importation/15yearrule.htm
To contact Transport Canada regarding the 15 Year Rule you can follow
this link: http://www.tc.gc.ca/roadsafety/importation/contact-us.htm
We look forward to JUMVEA's response and how your members would like
to respond and become involved.
Sincerely
